Solar contract rules by state
Cancellation deadlines and solar consumer protections vary a lot from state to state. Pick yours.
| State | Cancellation window (summary) |
|---|---|
| California | Most solar contracts signed at your home are home solicitation contracts. You generally have 3 business days to cancel for any reason. |
| Texas | For residential solar contracts signed on or after September 1, 2025, Texas law (SB 1036) gives you 5 business days to cancel without penalty. |
| Arizona | Arizona's home solicitation law generally gives you 3 business days to cancel a sale made at your home. |
| Florida | For a home solicitation sale, you can cancel until midnight of the third business day after you sign. |
| Nevada | Under Nevada's solar consumer protection rules, you have three days after signing to cancel a residential solar contract. |
| New Jersey | Home improvement contracts over $500 must be in writing and include a bold notice that you can cancel within three business days after receiving a copy of the contract. |
| Utah | You have a legal right to cancel, and your agreement must clearly state it, with an email and mailing address for your cancellation notice. Look for the exact deadline on your agreement. |
