How to Cancel a Solar Contract in Utah (2026 Guide)
Utah tightened its solar sales rules in 2024, and a solar agreement that doesn't follow them may not be enforceable against you.
Your right to cancel in Utah
- You have a legal right to cancel, and your agreement must clearly state it, with an email and mailing address for your cancellation notice. Look for the exact deadline on your agreement.
- Installation can't start until 4 business days after the seller gives you the signed agreement.
- If you cancel, the seller must return any check and refund your money within 10 days.
Utah solar rules to know
- Since May 1, 2024, sellers must hand you a separate paper disclosure statement when you sign, in at least 12-point type.
- It must include savings estimates and the assumptions behind them, warnings that power credit rules can change, system and warranty details, installer license numbers, and a statement that the seller isn't affiliated with your utility or the government.
- Under the law, an agreement isn't enforceable against the customer unless these requirements are met. The Utah Division of Consumer Protection can fine sellers up to $2,500 per violation.
Missed the deadline?
